POSTAL INSPECTORS PROTECT
HURRICANE SANDY VICTIMS FROM FRAUD

One year ago today the Northeast Region experienced one of the most catastrophic storms in its history. Hurricane Sandy destroyed many homes, businesses and lives in the Tri-States-New Jersey, New York and Connecticut.

While our customers continue to rebuild, the U.S. Postal Service and U.S. Postal Inspection Service will be there to deliver your mail and protect you from fraud.

As we move forward, we would like to remind our customers to thoroughly research offers to assist with rebuilding your homes and businesses, even a year after the storm. At a time when we are standing together to regain normalcy, it is important to be aware that there are always individuals who try to capitalize on the vulnerability of others.

If you have knowledge of anyone offering aid that "sounds too good to be true," don't take the bait. Call the Department of Justice Disaster Fraud Hotline at 866-720-5721, or call the Postal Inspection Service at 877-876-2455 (press 5).

If you wish to help victims of fraud, Postal Inspectors caution you to be sure to choose a legitimate charity-not one set up for the sole purpose of bilking the public.

Check out organizations you're unfamiliar with by visiting the Better Business Bureau's Wise Giving Alliance website, and read our tips about Charity Fraud.

Together, we can keep Americans safe from fraud during the rebuilding of the Tri-States area.
